Far & Wide – May 2026

May started softly, got incredibly loud during the middle, and then finished with a wonderful return to routine. Tag along as we go over what happened that month.

Mother’s Day

Not much happened near the beginning of May. Sophie and I spent a lot of time caring for the garden, but really the talk of the town was where I’d be going soon, Iceland.

Before we did that though we had a surprise to make happen – we were going back to Boston to see my family and surprise my Mother for Mother’s Day. It was lovely and while we were out there my parents and I went for a nice walk where I photographed the above flower in bloom.

Iceland

In May my brother and I went on a trip to Iceland. It was absolutely incredible, and honestly a trip I didn’t expect to be able to go on this year. I’m eternally grateful that he and I had a chance to go on it – I doubt either of us will ever forget it. You can read a far more in-depth capture of that story in the dedicated Iceland Post. It has far more details than I’ll go into here. If you don’t want to though, I’ll include a few of my favorite pictures from that trip here.

After arriving we drove out to our first hotel, along the way witnessing the dramatic volcanic landscape that Iceland is known for (as well as the weather it’s famous for).

The following morning we went out for a sunrise hike, along the way seeing this spectacular sunrise over the rivers winding their way through the countryside.

The following morning we went on a long-hike into a remote canyon in the southern part of Iceland. While we were there we saw a Ptarmigan perched on a overlook watching the valley below it.

Walking down from the view, we came upon a cliff-face offering a stunning look at one of the more famous canyons of the country. We watched as the mighty rivers snaked it’s way out to sea.

From the canyon, we went and explored the stunning glacial landscape of Glacier Lagoon. We would go back to this place a few days later and the views were not nearly as nice. The ice is in constant motion here, we visited at a good time.

Days later, we were driving back to the airport. We had one final view of the glacial landscapes before making our way back to civilization.

Back Home

After Iceland was over, I was back in Colorado and would be for some time. We had some of Sophie’s family visit which is always fun, and we went up to Rocky Mountain National Park with them.

I was primarily focused on hanging out with them – but I did bring a camera to take a few pictures. Can you see the fish in the image? They blend in well with the rocks of the riverbed but I promise, they’re present.

May ended up being a month I’ll never forget.

Iceland was incredible and seeing family is always fun.
