Utah

This is the closest I'll ever get to photographing Mars.

The first gallery I felt compelled to make was for Utah. When I visited in the fall of 2022, I was excited . Zion and the mighty five were so beautiful from everything I’d seen I could not wait. That first night I witnessed Zion from a distance. I was busy photographing the mountains near where I was staying. For the rest of the time In Utah I was equally captivated by the beauty of the state.

It shocked me how much variety there was in such a relatively small area. Utah has mountains, deserts, forests, rivers, lakes, and everything else that could make up a natural paradise. My favorite hike was easily the Narrows in Zion.

I had already attempted and failed them once, Utahs freshwater was bitingly cold when I first attempted bare-foot. After getting waders, I made a second go of it. I rode the first shuttle out, and more or less sprinted to the water, I needed to reach Wall Street as soon as possible. The reason is that sunrise lights up this part of the hike with the Zion Glow but only briefly. The rising sun illuminates higher canyon walls which the lower canyon reflects that light and becomes bright red. I made it in time.
