Traveling All Over The US – July 2025

Tag along as we visit Cape Cod and some family before heading back to Colorado to host some great guests!

July was a blast! It was positively packed to the brim with stuff to do – we started the month out visiting family in New England and finished the month off with guests in Colorado. Let’s recap some of the trip and some of my favorite pictures!

Falmouth

After an easy flight, we were back home. It was good to be back and seeing my folks was great, but we had a destination in mind. We had to get to the Cape!

After a quick round of good-byes we went down and the drive was easy – there wasn’t any traffic and we settled in quickly with the group.

The next morning I tried to wake up early and only partially succeeded, but managed to get some lovely images out of it.

The first thing I did was get myself a coffee – seeing as I was back in the home of Iced Coffee – that’s what I got first. I checked out Pie In The Sky in Woods Hole (really good BTW).

After that I walked around the surrounding area for quite some time just exploring and it was a lovely morning, I was walking near the oceanographic institute of Woods Hole (right near downtown) and some of the property near there was a joy to behold.

In particular, I enjoyed watching the light as it began to bleed into the otherwise dark scenes, giving a bit of warm contrast to the otherwise cool scene. You can see what I’m talking about in particular on the front porch of the house photographed below – a bit of warmth on the floor complimenting the cool tones of the shadows above and the hydrangeas in front.

After that – I spent the day with family, not taking too many photos of landscapes (a lot of portrait work instead). Even still I did manage to get this one picture of a seaside scene.

There was a lot of fun to be had but eventually it was time for my parents to go home – and for me to prepare dinner.

We did some grilling (nothing fancy – just burgers and dogs) before an early bedtime for the kids.

That evening after they were tucked in – Sophie and I went for a walk down towards the water. We walked along the beach for a bit reflecting on the trip so far and talking about nothing.

Eventually it was time for us to head back and say hi to the people still awake (the adults of the trip).

On the walk home – I noticed this scene and had to take a picture. Unfortunately, it was a windy evening and the tripod I brought was so light that it was having a hard time dealing with the wind – but this is the sharpest version of the image. It’s a great composition and the layer of the scene is really pleasant.

Foggy Starts to Sunny Harbors

The next morning Sophie and I woke up early for a drive farther into the Cape, we were going to the illustrious Hole In One – home to the best donuts on Cape Cod. The drive out there was nice and quiet, we stopped at a beach briefly (before being told it wasn’t open yet and the gate was only opened for the port-a-potty cleaning guy).

The best photo I got that morning was from one of the streets we were going to be heading down – we stopped and I got this picture. It’s the quintessential quiet and peaceful Cape Cod scene.

After that we were destined for the water! Everyone enjoyed the donuts but sooner rather than later it was time to head to the harbor. We went out and the clouds which had been bringing a drizzle and dominating the skies slowly began clearing themselves up for our enjoyment!

While swimming in the harbor – I came across quite a few clams. I didn’t know that you could do that (just find them in the wild so close to shore)! I ended up catching 6 – but did release them. After that it was time to head home. We’d go back and relax for a while before having some good salmon on the grill for dinner.

The following day, I was working again but in the evening I managed to take some time with Sophie and her family and had a lovely dinner at a nearby restaurant.

The wait was long to get in so we had to kill some time and went for a walk! Along the way I saw even more pretty roads – and couldn’t help but snap a couple more pictures.

These two images marked the end of my time in the Cape. I had some other visits planned with my family, but to do that I’d need to leave the cape – and head back north. It was a wonderful visit – and such fun to be in a part of the country I’d not been able to visit and spend dedicated time in – in so long.

Back To Colorado

As much as it was good to be home, I was ready to head back to Colorado! Shortly after making my way home I was hosting my first set of guests!

James and Katie were so excited to be out there and we had a truly unforgettable time. I showed them so many of the classics including the lovely hikes of Boulder and Rocky Mountain National Park.

While leaving one of the hikes in Boulder we saw the deer on our right hanging out in the shade to try and escape the heat and the crowds. I can’t blame her!

The Second Visit

After James and Katie left, we only had a bit of time until our next visitor arrived! My old friend Kaitlyn flew out to visit and explore a new part of the country! This first image from her visit was from hiking in Golden – and there was a lot more hiking (and even better pictures) to be had, however that was from August!

Make sure to stay tuned for August’s post. Many of those images are some of my favorite that I’ve been able to capture since being in the state. I can’t wait to share.
