Photo Of The Week (Week 3, 2024): Third & Forty-Eighth

When you're crossing an intersection in NYC - which way do you face? I faced south for this image.
Third & Forty-Eighth

I’d already been in New York City for a day, and this was my first full-day off. After catching up with my cousin the night before, I caught up on some sleep and got ready for a bright and early morning the next day. I’d be writing my blog.

After a full-morning filled with coffee, croissants and walking around, I went back to the hotel and picked up my friends. We were going to go to the MET today and decided that we’d walk it. Instead of heading for the Metro we opted to leg it. Along the way – we were going to be visiting a coffee-shop which doubled as a flower-shop, and it was delightful.

The thing that caught my eye the most was the wide open streets in the early afternoon on Friday. Not as many cars were out as I expected (at least at this intersection) and I managed to snag this shot. When shooting city-scapes the thing that draws my attention the most (especially in intersections) is the perspective. I love witnessing the buildings which tower above me get smaller and smaller as they approach the vanishing point of the horizon.

Adding to the wonder of this scene for me is the way that the colors of it all intersect. Overall – it’s an image of a few colors. Dull brown and heavy-handed tones of dominate the image. Until you reach the bus lane and the W.B. Mason truck. This contrast of color works wonders for the image on the hole – and I am quite happy to share it.
