Photo Of The Week #6, 2024: Short Exposure Snowfall

You ever reflect on how often we need to run snow-machines now?
Short Exposure Snowfall

It’s sad how often they need to run the snow-machines these days. They’ve had to do it my whole life – but there’s no denying that the snow on the ground is becoming less and less – and there’s a further and further reliance on the snow we make instead of the snow that falls.

Anyone who has ever skied or boarded can tell you – that snow and powder is not the same as the good-stuff, the fresh snow that falls in storms and coats everything. Not the fake stuff that falls and only covers a small section of the mountain where they aim the cannons.

While I did have fun on this day of skiing – and the images that I got that day were great (you can see more here) I must admit the amount of man-made snow required for the mountain to stay functional did make me sad. It’s a shame seeing what used to be thriving mountains and ski resorts rely more and more on human intervention to be viable.

I fear the day that we don’t get anymore real snowfall.
