It was a quiet night when my friend got into town. He flew in around midnight and by the time he got to my place it was 1AM. We cracked a beer each – chatted for about an hour and then hit the hay. We had a sunrise to catch the next morning.
The sunrise was spectacular – we got high enough on the mountain in the morning to really witness the full show.
Typically I try not to mix urban and natural scenes in my photography – I find that it’s better to focus on one or the other instead of trying to do both. However in this instance I think it really works well.
You can see the Colorado School of Mines in the foreground with the city of Denver rising high above the ground far off in the distance. The sun was lighting up the fall foliage brilliantly – and made for a really contrasting and stunning scene to work with.
