May 2025 – Successful Photography All Over The U.S.

May was a wonderful month. While it was busy, and there were points where I was more exhausted than enthused, it's hard to deny how much fun I had. I went all over the country and saw some novel things - I hope you enjoy the pictures!

May was – like April was as shown in What We Did In April 2025a busy month! However busy is not always a bad thing, and I’d say in this case it most certainly was not. With a lot of time spent among friends and family – and as much spent in nature, I was truly a happy camper all month long.

P.S. My favorite photo is the final one.

Hiking To New Viewpoints

Woke up early and stayed out late on more than one occasion this month, and this morning was one of the ones where we woke up early! We tried a new hike which is always enjoyable and the weather was sublime. It wasn’t too hot or too cold, truly it was perfect.

Viewing Local Pits

Sometimes you just see something that strikes your fancy. I don’t think there’s anything particularly novel about this image.

But that’s what I like about it. It’s just a car parked in a lot with a no-walk signal and a green light.

But for some reason the photo really works for me. What do you think? Am I going a bit crazy or is this a good image. Let me know what you think in the comments.

A Return To Charleston

In the middle of May, I took a quick jaunt to Charleston to visit my brother. The weather was horrid but we had a ton of fun regardless. I even went into the ocean right before the storms rolled in (they came in the above photo – and didn’t really leave as you can see in the one to the right).

Squeezing In Evening Hikes

As I mentioned in April’s post, I’ve been looking forward to the ability to hike again after the work-day, it’s a wonderful means of relaxation and “unwinding” – and we were able to do just that this evening after we were both back from our trips.

We saw the largest herd of elk I’ve ever seen ~30 or so. They came close to the trail but we made sure not to approach them to try and keep the ability for the wildlife to be somewhat wild.

And Rainy Ones Too

On a rainy Sunday some friends and I set out to do a hike through the haze at a trail nearby.

When we arrived it was softly raining and we were already out there early so we decided to stick with the plan and keep going.

It was fine for some time until we reached the quarter point in the trail where the mud began.

Very quickly it became adamant that the lack of treeline covering the trail had made for a recipe of mud and muck. By the end of the hike we’d each had our shoes covered in mud and it was sticking to our feet weighing us down.

Finishing In The Fog

The last set of viewpoints were from a vista I’ve explored in many sets of weather. But one I’ve yet to see in the fog and cloud.

It worked well for the location – and offered a sense of mood rarely seen here.

Before Fitting In One More

I had this article fully written and scheduled to publish on May 28th. Then I wound up going on a hike on the 31st! It was a new destination and a really enjoyable morning!

It was a really enjoyable morning, with not many other people on the trail. By the time I was leaving people were arriving but I had a grand time given that for most of the hike I was unbothered.

I think the tricky part about this location was managing the trees – they were wonderful to look at (and provided a great home for the birds) but never really let the mountains be witnessed fully. I had to work with them in the end!

I was also taking some video footage this morning and towards the tail-end of the hike, the image I got was in my eyes perfect. It’s a perfect capstone to a great month – and the image I want to leave you with. See you after June!
