Life Well Lived in Rural Vermont. (POTW 28, 2024)

Tag along and enjoy looking at the different sites and places we visited on a trip to Woodstock Vermont. Let me know what your favorite image is!

My family hadn’t gone on a trip since we visited Washington DC when I was a kid. This summer we wanted to change it so we booked a wonderful trip out to the rural nature of Vermont in the summer time. To say it was awesome would not even come close to capturing how much fun my family and I had on this trip.

The Village Center

One place that we visited more than any other was downtown Woodstock. I’d been to the area before but only in the winter. Coming in the summer was a wholly different beast. It was warm, people were always out – the sun was shining. We were happy.

This was taken on the first morning in the area – but my favorite morning was when the whole family went on our second full-day there. We got coffee and food at Mon Vert before walking around and checking out some local stores (my favorite being the bookstore). After that we grabbed sandwiches from The Village Butcher, they were delicious.

The Lookout

One of the major hikes we did was Luce’s Lookout. Once my brother and I reached the top we climbed up to the summit – and the views overlooking the rolling green hills of Vermont were gorgeous under the bright blue sky.

As we left the area I took the following image as well. I played around heavily with the tone and color mixers in Capture One when photographing this scene and I’m not sure how I Feel about the image all things considered. I do think that the colors work together but I still find the scene looking slightly, unnatural. What do you think about it?

The Homestead

The final major place worth sharing about from our trip was where we actually stayed. While I won’t give you the street out of respect for the owners of the property all I will say is that the place was gorgeous. Not only was the house incredible but the area around it was exactly what we wanted out of a trip.

Surrounded on all sides by nature we were able to take many walks and journeys adventuring to nearby rivers – forests – and gravel roads.

Along the way we even got a mascot for the trip, Daphne. The dog you’ll find in the first picture below. She was the neighbors dog who joined us one night to hang out while we walked around and rested on the porch.
