Near the end of “warm fall” Sophie and I decided to make the most of our weekend and go camping – and it was amazing. I’ve not gone camping in nearly a decade. This time around instead of camping on a mountain-top we were camped out in the back of my car.
After arrival, we took a short hike (where I took the image on the right). It was a nice walk and good to stretch our legs. Walking along the river was a blast and we even saw an Amtrak train roll on by.
The night was fun with nice light and a good dinner (we each got freeze-dried meals) and eventually it was time for bed.
The light dimmed fast and we began to get colder and colder in the back of the car. We made it through the night but both underestimated just how cold it was going to get.
That said – it was well worth the cold for how much of the night sky we got to see. We had the moon-roof shade open – and laying in bed looking up at a jam-packed starry sky was something unbelievable. We even managed to see the comet pictured in the first image of the page before the clouds rolled in.
The next morning we woke up and cranked the heat in the car to help wake us up – and drove to watch the sunrise at a nearby vantage point we’d scouted the night prior. It was a nice sunrise and we were kept company by some local wildlife (bighorn sheep).
After the light faded (fast as it arrived) we started to drive home – and along the way we saw some beautiful scenes of lone cabins and I couldn’t help but snap an image. I hope you enjoy it – I’ll see you in the next one.
