In May 2024, I went on a fantastic trip with my partner Sophie to the wonderfully basaltic archipelago of the Faroe Islands. We were there for two weeks and had an absolute blast. While we had a ton of fun – the photography of it wasn’t easy. The conditions were not always the friendliest and after the first two nights (which were host to uncharacteristically nice weather for the islands) any light we’d get was hard fought.
But fight we did.
Over the next few weeks I’ll release three pieces outlining my time in Faroe – and the work I produced while I was there. I’d call the trip a success. Not only did I get to photograph a beautiful place but it gave me a lot of 1:1 time to spend with my partner distraction free which is always a win.
The biggest challenge we would come to find out wouldn’t be the weather it was sickness. I was sick going into the trip and writing this piece now (post-trip) I’m still on the road to recovery. But we do what we need to do to make these trips worthwhile regardless of our health.
The Faroes were undoubtedly one of the most unique and inspiring places to photograph that I’ve ever been. In any weather, it was a joy to shoot.. Around every corner there was another mountain to view, fjord to skirt along the sides of, or sheep to watch graze. All the while watching the vágur pass us by. I hope you enjoy reading about this trip as much as I enjoyed going on it.
P.S. I have many photos still being edited from the trip. If you want to see what I’ve already edited check out the gallery I created. You can find that here, Faroe Islands.
Update: I’ve released part one of the series here.
