A Normal Week

Living In Boston

Just a normal week of Street Photography in Boston. July 24th – 28th, 2023. I photographed all of these images on my Fujifilm X100V.

July 24th, 2023 – This first day truly didn’t have much going on. It was any other Monday, and I was ready to get back into the routine of work after a long weekend photographing Bash Bish Falls. That evening, I decided that I’d go visit Sophie in Somerville, and we would make quesadillas. I brought my X100V with me during the commute and got some lovely photos of the light hitting the side of the museum of science.

Tuesday

July 25th, 2023 – This day started off with a banger of a photograph. Sophie and I went to Union Square donuts and grabbed a bite to eat before heading to our offices for the day. I managed to get this photograph of the cafe as some satisfyingly stark light was piercing the windows.

An image of a cafe with bright light piercing windows and illuminating parts of the view.

With a nice morning of sunny weather well behind the city, Boston’s weather system decided that we needed to be reminded of who’s in charge here. Thus a storm front of heavenly proportions opened up (for the umpteenth time that month).

This rain would continue for most of the evening. To avoid the wet walk home I decided that now would be a good time to try the ferry. I was cold and drenched waiting by the dock. But the second I stepped onto the ferry, I was warm and cozy. The feeling of protection from the the cold and relentless storm was a welcome moment’s respite.

July 26th, 2023 – After a normal day in the office, it was time for me to leave. I’d be meeting up with Sophie in the park to see Macbeth with some friends of ours. The drinks at Trillium were excellent as always, and the show was awesome! We got great weather for the show and it was a joy sitting on the lawn watching the performance.

Thursday

July 27th, 2023 – This was the most normal day of the whole normal week. There was nothing special about it or worth sharing. There definitely wasn’t a series of planned and unplanned events transpiring in celebration of the 25th birthday of my girlfriend.

Definitely not. Anyways, here are six images showcasing the dramatic sights I was given of the sunset from that night.

The third and the final images are my two favorites from the set. I love the way the bright neon lights of the city down below contrasts with the rich and vibrant colors of the setting sky. This is a 10 second exposure, resulting in the clouds showing a level of motion that’s hard to compete with.

Friday

July 28th, 2023 – A great way to end this normal week of mine. We had good weather and I decided to take the ferry home one more time on Friday. The views while it was sunny and nice out were a stark contrast to the experience I’d had on Tuesday.

Waiting for the ferry was a dream, the ICA was side-lit well as the sun was slowly (but surely) beginning to set. I managed to snag this photograph before the ferry arrived. Once I got on board I was treated to such a different view of the harbor than I’d got during the storm. It was a stunning contrast.
